There are several other ways to find out whether your pay scale measures up with others in your profession. Here is a list of ten sites that provide salary information for a number of different industries.
- Payscale.com – This service is free, but will require you to set up an account or login using a Linkedin login in order to view the results. The results do include allowing you to look at the information in the other matching profiles that they used to create the comparison, which is very helpful.
- Bureau of Labor Statistics – This government site provides information based on its regular surveys of employers. You can look at statistics by location, industry and occupation. You can do quick ‘at a glance’ views or search for more detailed information.
- U.S. Census Bureau – The data here is based off the latest census, but can be a bit general in nature. You may need to do a bit of searching to find exactly what you are looking for.
- ComputerWorld.com – If you’re in the IT field than this site may provide the type of information you are looking for. Punch in your years of experience, job title and location to find out what their survey says you should be making.
- Robert Half International – This site provides salary guides in several different areas: Finance, legal, creative, and office admin. Their salary guides come in a free downloadable format.
- Accounting Principals – For accounting and finance careers, you can request a copy of the comprehensive salary guide for accounting and finance professionals from this site.
- Oil and Gas JobSearch – If you work in the oil and gas industry you can review the salary guide for the current year and compare your salary to those of others in similar positions in the industry. You can also search for work on this site.
- Hays Worldwide Recruiting – This international recruiting service provides a salary guide upon request. The information is based upon their placements with employers around the globe in a number of different companies and positions.
- LightReading.com – For those working in the telecommunications field this site has begun doing annual salary surveys of that industry. You do need to register with the site to read the report, but it is also a good site for finding additional work opportunities in this field.
