If you’ve never tackled the task of painting a room before, you may want to visit one or more of these websites first. Although it is a fairly easy and common task, there are still tips that can save you time and effort if you take the time to listen to the advice of those with previous experience.
- Dummies.com – Hopefully this isn’t offensive to anyone, but the Dummies website happens to provide great step-by-step information regarding painting a room. It covers topics like preparation, choosing your paint and tools that you will need. It even addresses the topic of how to paint the doors of a room and not just the walls.
- MarthaStewart.com – This might surprise you too, but Martha provides an excellent tutorial on the steps you should follow when painting a room. Although she does provide good tips on choosing your colors for the room, the how-to information is excellent as well.
- TLC.HowStuffWorks.com – The Learning Channel provides a top notch internet service for many different home projects, and that includes instructions related to painting a room. The information provided here recognizes that rooms have ceilings, walls, trim and casework, all of which may need painting. The site addresses each of these areas in its painting instructions. It also provides information regarding the application of paint using a sprayer versus brushes and rollers.
- ThisOldHouse.com – Just as on the television program by this name, their website provides visual instructions along with the written instructions for completing a painting project. Their instructions for painting a room also cover painting of the windows in a room as well, since most old homes would have wood framed windows. They always give a time frame for projects, and they list one day as the amount of time you need to set aside for a room painting project.
- LivingonaDime.com – If you are looking for ways to save money on your painting project, this site has some ideas for you. It provides some tips that will allow you to reuse some of your tools rather than throwing them away. In addition it provides some basic common sense tips that anyone can use.
- RealSimple.com – The publishers of Real Simple Magazine provide their simple instructions online as well. The site provides a six step tutorial on painting the walls of a room. If you’re just looking for the basics and nothing in depth, this is a good resource.
- HomeRepair.About.com – As usual, About.com is an excellent internet provider of home repair and maintenance tips. Painting a room is once of the most common projects among homeowners. About.com has articles about the proper way to use a paint brush, how to prep your room for painting and then articles on how to do the painting itself.
- FamilyTime.com – This site provides ten steps to follow when painting a room. Both the first and last steps in the process involve the color. It provides excellent advice on choosing the color and then finishes up by suggesting that you paint yourself a sample to carry with when choosing décor items for the room. There are definitely some good tips found on this website.
- A View From Elsewhere – This is the blog of John Montgomery, just an average guy with some useful information to share. His article on painting a room is prepared with the newbie in mind, a person who is about to approach their initiation into this common experience of mankind. He gives very practical and helpful advice, include whose advice to listen to and who’s not to.
- Decorating.VistaCasas.com – This site has several good articles on interior painting. It has some of the basic topics like preparation and choosing paint colors. It also has articles on specialty paint finishes like sponge painting.
